Description:

KYPH is a plant app with which purpose is to help users to get relevant information from a plant-lover community about how they can keep their plants healthier. In this app, they can enjoy the benefit of a forum, track plant history, and get assistants for taking care of their plants.

This plant app is dedicated to users who like to have plants at home and would like to share information about them, who enjoy and believe in the power of community.

─ The challenge

Usually, people are like having plants at home because they clean indoor air, reduce stress, and also a cool decoration. They also allow responsibility and challenges for the owner because each plant has different needs and many times the biggest challenge for them is to get relevant information about what’s wrong with their plant.

I treat my plants like a human being. It is something that makes me happy

─ Solution

A platform where people, besides setting a reminder when they have to pay attention to their house plants, can also get:

  • Fast and easier searching by using the post labels and asking help from the community

  • The option to set ‘Pro tips’ about plants that they have at home

  • The availability share photos or posts and they would be able to add information labels to it

  • a plant diary where they can track the day when they started taking care of their plants plus they can also save posts and information that are relevant for them

I like to do pictures and post on IG in my stories
— Adam

─ Interview & survey summary

Information is based on 4 interviews and 112 survey answers.

─ Persona

who doesn’t want to have plants, but also doesn’t want to waste too much time in searching for information about them

Pain points:

  • lack of knowledge (too complicated to search for information about plants)

  • remember different plants and their different needs

  • responsibility - plants are a long term task

  • vocation (finding a caretaker when they are available)

Goals:

  • exciting and relaxing daytime activities

  • get satisfaction by having nice and healthy plants

  • acclimation from the community and from friends

  • become a guru about his/her plants = proud in your achievement

─ Concept & iterations

Home Page

At the top of the homepage, the user can find some useful tips about plant care. After that starts the plant section where the user can find what kind of plants has and do they need some care actually. Thereafter can find the newest posts from the forum.

Usability testing feedback:

  • In general, the hierarchy is a little bit confusing

  • The ‘Pro Tips’ itself doesn’t make sense and needs more clarification

  • Tab - hard to notice which icon is active

  • Plant care - it has to click too many times to make the task

Forum

Here the user very easy can share their problems or just daily life photos. Also, they can save interesting forum topics and rate the answers that other users wrote.

Usability testing feedback:

  • Post owner - it would be better if a face and a name were behind the post

  • Post-hierarchy is messy

Plant diary

At this part, the user can track the general information about the plant care history or add some new photos about the plant. Also would be able to save forum posts directly to the specific plant diary.

The app also automatically logs the time when the user was taking care of their plants (like watering, rotating, etc.)

Usability testing feedback:

  • Plant bio, too many buttons. It isn’t very easy to find the notification panel

Notification

Every plant has different needs that’s why in the app the user can set them separately when they have to look after their plant. Plus they can pause the notification anytime.

Usability testing feedback:

  • Plant care: the icons under the plant aren’t clear
